Have you ever had a moment that made you pause and reflect on the choices you’ve made in life? This week, I experienced just that. My niece, Didi, received a special award at her school for embodying the values of faithfulness and being an outstanding human being. It’s moments like these that remind me why I chose the path of entrepreneurship.
As a career + HR consultant, speaker, and executive advisor, I’ve always preached the importance of following your passion and dancing to your own beat. And today, as I sat in the school auditorium, I realized that my decision to be my own boss allowed me to be there for my niece’s special moment. It was a stark contrast to the other parents who either couldn’t make it due to work commitments or who had to ask for permission to take time off of work.
It’s not always easy being an entrepreneur. The steady paychecks and (often false) sense of security working for someone else can be tempting. But the fulfillment I get from helping people and communities thrive is unmatched. The freedom to set my own schedule so I can be there for those I care about is priceless.
This is especially important to me since I’m a member of the “sandwich generation” with both young children and elderly parents that I care or oversee care for on a regular basis. These are some of the reasons that drove me to leave my full-time job, six figure job and pursue my own ministries and live my life on my own terms.
If you’re feeling stuck in your day job and yearning for more, I’m here to help. Let’s work together to create a life that’s not only fulfilling but also gives you the freedom to be there for the important moments. What’s better than dancing to your own beat with the music you’ve chosen?
To all the aunts, uncles, and non-parent figures out there, let’s continue to be a part of the village that supports and loves the next generation. They are our future, and it’s up to us to help them shine.
I am deeply grateful for the organizations I worked for full-time throughout the years. It was working for others full time that helped me to be where I am today as an entrepreneur with ministries. My full-time jobs plus the educational investments I made in myself gave me both the financial safety net, expertise and knowledge that continue to help me experience freedom and purpose.
