Here are two practices you can try:
After sharing disappointing news with your team, invite them to brainstorm ways in which this disappointment might have some โsilver liningsโ. This creates a positive, optimistic energy and might spark creative ideas despite the circumstance.
Model what it means to have a grateful mindset. Keep in mind that praising a team member who performed well is a basic standard. If youโre a basic leader, you can stop here. But if you prefer to step up your inclusive leadership skills, take it a step further by naming your gratitude for them as a person, not just praise for the results of their labor.
In addition to praising them for a job well done, express your gratitude to them for being on your team. Ex: โWhen we hired you/When I met you, โABCโ and now, Iโve had time to really experience just how grateful I am that youโre on our team. Itโs not just about your results, but I appreciate how you get them. You bring a unique โXZYโ and I appreciate it.โ
I also have a third practice that you may find helpful. If youโd like to know, direct message me โ3โ and Iโll respond with my 3rd actionable practice you can implement to foster a gratitude mindset in your team.
