Attract Opportunities and Make Jobs Chase You

  • Posted on Jan 6, 2024

Feel like you’re playing hide and seek with job opportunities? Why not switch roles and become the one that’s sought after?

When job searching, it’s important to “apply, apply, apply”, but that’s actually the hard way. Using the strategy of solely applying to jobs will eventually  get you a job, but it often will also get you exhausted. The constant rejection and lack of communication when some employers don’t acknowledge receipt or keep you informed about the process can contribute to depression, anxiety, and negative self-talk. Job searching isn’t for the faint of heart.

In the world of work, I often tell my individual career consulting clients to “apply, apply, apply!”, but this should definitely not be your only method. What if I told you there’s a more empowering strategy? Build a personal brand so magnetic that recruiters are drawn to you like bees to honey. 🐝💼

Building a personal brand isn’t something you can do overnight. It’s one of those things that are simple, but not easy. You must be consistent, know yourself well, and be in it for the long-haul. Building your personal brand is like networking – if you start doing it as soon as you need it, you’ve probably started too late.

As a career and HR consultant, I’ve seen the transformative power of a strong network and a visible skill set. The problem I have seen is once a client gets their ideal job, they’re so exhausted by the whole job search ordeal that they stop putting themselves out there online and offline. They keep their head down until they are ready to job search again. Then, they brush off their resume and start over.

Why is job searching so exhausting? Because you are often starting from scratch each time. When you never stop building your personal brand regardless of if you’re employed or not – you’ll always be more prepared. Being proactive helps you win on multiple levels. When you’re ready to #jobsearch or #getclients as a #solopreneurs, using this strategy helps you achieve your goals faster and with less resistance.

Starting your job search without a personal brand is like walking to work on foot. Starting your job search when your professional brand has already been established online and offline is like commuting to work with a vehicle. You’ll get their faster, be less exhausted when you arrive, and you’ll be protected from any unfavorable weather.

Whether it’s #remotejobs, in-office positions, or you’re a #solopreneur –  the key is to showcase your talents where they can shine the brightest. So, keep yourself out there even once you get a job. You’ll be glad you did!

Here’s a little secret: your resume is just a piece of paper until it’s brought to life by your personal brand. And that cover letter? It’s your opening act, not the main event. The real showstopper is how you present yourself online and offline.

For my colleagues in the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities, this is especially crucial. Historically marginalized groups often face additional hurdles in the job market. That’s why I dedicate my time to workshops, career consulting, and training that empower these voices. 🏳️‍🌈🤎 My #Lovecareerfreedom program is being refreshed for 2024, so join my VIP mailing list to stay tuned! I’ll have a training on this topic to support you and I’m looking forward to it!

In short, flip the script and get more jobs chasing you! 🏃‍♀️💨

Building your personal brand online and offline helps you attract opportunities. When others already want to work with you, they are competing for you versus the other way around.

So, before you hit ‘submit’ on your next job application, pause and ask yourself, “What can I do today to make opportunities come to me?”

You can start by updating your LinkedIn profile, engaging with industry leaders, presenting workshops, or taking on a volunteer leadership role. I challenge you though, to think deeply about this. This is a long-term strategy and again, consistency is key. Make sure your plan is something you’re willing to do regularly and enthusiastically. Small steps are still progress.

That said, what’s one action you can take today to start this journey?

If you need help with this, I’m here for you. As shared, I’m creating a training on this exact topic. In the training, participants will learn how to build their personal brand by crafting customized action plans. They will learn how to attract opportunities in an authentic way that they can be consistent with. Sign up to my VIP list to get notified when this training will be available.

Remember, the goal is not just to find a job, but to create a career path that finds you. Your #careerwellness matters. Let’s make it happen together!
